Greetings music lovers and friends,
Pardon our dust! Thank you to the Sacramento Community Concert Association Board of Directors for allowing me to serve as your President for 2020-2022. It is an honor and a privilege to earn the trust of my fellow members and lead this outstanding organization. I am a classically-trained composer, pianist, singer- songwriter, and music educator. You may know me as one half of the internationally acclaimed, Carnegie Hall alum duo “Carlos & Brennen.” To those who don't know me yet, I am looking forward to sharing many exciting musical adventures with you!
Under my leadership, the Sacramento Community Concert Association has recently been awarded $1991.12 in reimbursement funding from the first round of Federal CARES Act Coronavirus Relief Funds, to better serve you through this health and economic crisis. Congratulations, everyone! We also wish to congratulate Elaine Gosine on her new role as President Emeritus.
Yet we still face many great and unusual challenges this year. We will resume in-person concerts as soon as it is demonstrably safe to do so. For the safety and well- being of all of our patrons, we will offer “virtual” programming for the remainder of 2020. These programs will be accessible through our website, and also via a new social media presence on Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and YouTube (our official username is SCCA53). On Sunday, September 27 at 3:00pm, we will post a spotlight video on Sacramento's own Laurel Zucker, a highly acclaimed virtuoso flutist, composer, educator, recording artist, and a member of our board. Zucker will share her research and experience as a champion and performer of music by African American composers and arrangers, many of them women. Donations are accepted through our website but “admission” is free – and you can access the video again at any time! Stay tuned, as we will announce the remainder of the season's programming shortly.
We remain firm in our commitment to stage world-class performances of classical music – and it's personal for me. You can also look forward to additional offerings from local Sacramento artists, reflecting our community's vibrant diversity. Our board is developing many exciting new events to share with our concert community, in addition to the Sunday afternoon programming that you already know and love. We are developing opportunities for comprehensive music education in our schools, to ensure equity and access to the arts even to the youngest among us.
Thank you for your continued support!
In love and solidarity,
Carlos McMillan Fuentes
President of the Board
